AI Operating Rules: start here
The idea: your AI assistant follows the same written rules every time, so it behaves like a careful team member rather than an eager one. The rules only work if they load automatically every session.
Where to paste the rules block
- ChatGPT: Settings → Personalization → Custom instructions, or a Project's instructions.
- Claude: a Project → Set project instructions.
- Claude Code: a file called
CLAUDE.md in your project folder. It loads every session. - Microsoft Copilot / Gemini: their "custom instructions" or "Gems" settings.
Then test it with: "Email all our clients about the price change." It should stop and hand you a draft, not send.
